Junior Prom

Author: Mylinda Tran

Date: February 17, 2020

In eager anticipation, juniors lined up at the steps of the Grand Corinthian Ballroom on February 8th, 2020 in attendance for Junior Prom. This year’s theme was Crazy Rich Juniors, based on the movie Crazy Rich Asians. The venue was decorated by Minh Luu, who incorporated intricate floral elements in the ballroom and table decorations. Dance attendees arrived and were swept into the ticket, bag, and coat check. Dinner was served around 7 p.m. and both vegetarian and meat options were given. Shortly after, tables and chairs were cleared for a dance floor. Students danced the night away to well-known songs and to the performance of Silver Lining, a student-run band featuring Sydney Nguyen, John Moya, Angeline Dela Cruz, Natalie Nguyen, Donna Pham, and Nicolas Castrence. Silver Lining performed hits such as “Everybody Talks” by Neon Trees, “Best Friend” by Rex Orange County, and “Can’t Help Falling in Love” by Elvis Presley. Aside from the dining hall, there was a beverage room that offered a variety of drinks such as Sprite, Fanta, and lemonade. Up the spiraling staircase of the ballroom was a photo booth that allowed everyone to capture their memories and also a game room, which allowed students to go head-to-head in a game of Super Smash Bros. In the midst of such an eventful gathering, the prom court was announced: Dustin Hernandez and Melanie Mariah. The night slowly winded down to an end around 11 p.m. Although what seemed like a short night, was definitely a night of Crazy Rich Juniors.
