Murder on the 518

By: Medha Garapati

EVHS offers many performing art classes, one of them being the well-established drama class. The drama students are performing the production Murder on the 518 from April 27-29th. It will be at the EVHS theatre, where the audience can spend the day enjoying a great production with their friends and family along with supporting some of their talented classmates. This play will be the second production that the drama students will have put on this school year, the first being Alice in Wonderland.

While interviewing some of the actors in Murder on the 518, they said that there are many great parts of the play to look out for as it is very engaging and exciting. One actor that plays the role of Dr. Lauren Maloney says that the last scene in the first act may be one of her

favorite scenes that she has ever done. This play is very chaotic and there will be quite a few instances where all the characters will be screaming at each other and about to bite each other's heads off.

Not only has the drama team been working really hard but so has the tech and makeup team. They all work together to make this amazing production possible. For some students, this play may be the last play that they act in for the rest of their high school years. Watching this play will be a great way to support them and our school's artistic talents. One junior actor was asked why students and teachers should come to watch the play and they answered“ …We've been working really hard on it and it's a mystery, who doesn't like a murder mystery”. Another junior actor answered “Everyone in the play including drama and tech are working really hard…it’s supposed to be a really fun show to watch”

For much of the crew and actors, the drama class has played a big role in who they are now. Many of the actors have said that the drama class at EVHS taught them to be more social and talkative with other people. They also have gained

more confidence in themselves as they can express their thoughts better. One actor, in particular, said “ I get to be around so many different people and personalities and it's like we're all a big family”. Another student actor said, “(The drama class) raised my confidence up… I felt like I wasn't good enough although working with others working on murder on the 518 made me feel better about it”.

If there are students that are choosing their classes currently, drama is a very unique class that is open to students of all ages and types. This class teaches many social skills that won’t necessarily be taught in other classes. It is an engaging class that teaches the art of public speaking, and alongside that, there is an unlimited tea supply.

AP testing and finals are coming up and everyone deserves a break before the grind. If you have the weekend free between April 27-29th come and watch the amazing production of Murder on the 518 in the theater for only 10$. It may be a great time to spend the weekend while socializing and supporting your classmates.
