Track and Field Senior Night

By: Inaaya Yunus

As the school year comes closer to the end, many sports are coming to an end and that means saying goodbye to the seniors who are a part of these sports and teams. One sport that recently had their senior night was track and field. Hosted here at EVHS, the team faced off against

Gilroy and eventually ended the meet with a ceremony to honor these seniors.

With lots of planning and thought put into the ceremony, students were scrambling to put up posters

and gather balloons all while setting up for the meet itself. But all in all, the meet ended well leading into a successful senior night. Track and field honored all 30 seniors with sashes, goodies bags, and quotes to represent each of them in their own way. The ceremony also ended with speeches from the captains and coaches, speaking about the season and encouraging the future of the team.

Sports are definitely a big part of many students' high school lives and saying goodbye can be a bittersweet moment, especially when it might be the last time that someone will play those sports competitively again. When asked, one senior stated that her favorite part of track was,”Just the memories and meeting new people and creating new bonds”. Being on a team feels like more than just a team and saying goodbye to something that has been very important and memorable for someone can be hard and emotional. Just like

graduation, senior nights honor and recognize their seniors for how hardworking and how important they are to the team. When asked what they will miss most about the seniors on t

he team, a junior responded, “I will miss the seniors’ positive, supportive, and encouraging energy towards underclassmen.” When asked the same question, a sophomore responded, “Even though I just met some of the seniors this year, I made really great connections with them and how sweet and inviting they were to everyone!” The seniors this year really impacted the team with their leadership and just how welcoming they were to those who were new and inexperienced.

Although saying goodbye at the end of

a season can be tough, people should still join a sport and make new friends and do things that they wouldn’t normally do. Saying goodbye to the seniors every year can be hard, but also a sweet moment, since they were able to impact so many people and leave a lasting impression. When ask

ed why people should join track and field, a distance runner responded, “Track is an amazing experience that allows you to meet different types of people. It allows you to watch yourself and your times steadily improve over time.” When asked the same question, a sprinter responded, “People should join track because you make so many amazing new friendships and it keeps you outside and relaxed while moving!”
